Ariel: The Restored Edition
by Sylvia Plath
dark
Perhaps it is my experience on book twitter getting torn up for saying something controversial but… the blatant racism. I couldn’t get past it. To the point where I ask myself why?
Plath is a wonderful poet. I’ll give her that. She’s got a way of storytelling that is captivating. However… it does not justify racism, regardless of the time period these were written in. As another reviewer wrote, other poets knew better - if society is going to uphold Sylvia Plath as a major feminist writer, hold her to the same standards.
