Red Clocks
by Leni Zumas
Set in a not-so-distant dystopian America where a new law means abortion is illegal and single parenthood is not possible, by way of adoption or otherwise.
While it is a deeply chilling plot—mostly because it seems terrifyingly close to what conservative politicians preach these days—it’s also so eloquently written in a way that makes following each of the five women’s unique stories so intriguing. Zumas is highly skilled at teetering back and forth between each story, intricately weaving them as she goes without revealing too much at once.
A chillingly relevant way to close out my 2018 reads.
