Batman: Knightfall, Vol. 1 by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, Adrienne Roy, Graham Nolan, Jim Aparo, John Constanza

4.0

It's a tome of a set (especially considering it's only the first volume of three) and, perhaps partly due to that, the work is a bit inconsistent, rather varied, in style and substance from issue or issue-set to the next. There are several writers and artists compiled in these runs and, of course, various perspectives and styles within the collection(s). Overall, I like Bane. I remember the Bane era of the 90's fondly but revisiting and catching up with the stuff I'd missed back then is a little cumbersome. I long more for a graphic novel of Bane than the entire epoch of volumes with so many disconnected stories.

All in all, a good collection because it's so seemingly complete. And, of course, it's Batman vs Bane, a formidable foe if Batman ever had one, certainly a foe Batman deserves. Glad DC released these volumes to tie into the Dark Knight Rises film release. Gives me an opportunity to fill in gaps prior to watching the movie which will, by necessity, offer a very different Bane and much less story given the length of a typical movie.
