The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

5.0

When a haphazard band of misfits come together on a mission that will rock their small town of Henrietta, Virginia to its bones, the results are nothing short of fantastic. Accidentally-on-purposefully dragged together from all walks of life, each damaged and bruised in their own ways: A not-powerless-but-not-psychic girl, a rich kid with a magical mission, a fatherless son, a poor boy in a rich sweater, a ferocious group of 16-year-olds that challenge gender-norms, break down social barriers, and truly represent the power behind unwavering loyalty and friendship.

Stiefvater weaves together a fast-paced magical story that takes the reader out of their lives and right into that small Virginia town. While it's slow to the build-up, once the plot thickens it seems that everything is happening all at once, all at the same time. A structured and organized story, yet detailed and lush and adventurous, you'll want to rush to the book store to get the second installment the moment you put down the first.
