Kitchen
by Banana Yoshimoto
emotional
reflective
sad
medium-paced
I didn’t expect Kitchen to move me so much.
It’s a quiet, simple novel, but it almost brought me to tears more than once.
There’s a soft melancholy in the way Yoshimoto writes about grief and human connection. Eriko, especially, is portrayed with such touching humanity, all the more striking for a book written in the late ’80s.
It’s not a favorite, but it’s one I won’t forget.
