I was not expecting to cry while reading a novel narrated by an octopus. And yet, reader, that is exactly what happened. Remarkably Bright Creatures touched me in the heart, not least due to Van Pelt's storytelling, which is thoughtful and emotional. The narrative throughout the book just the right mix of challenging and accessible, and the ending is beautiful. I get the hype over this book, because... wow.
