Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty

4.0

On an otherwise ordinary, short domestic flight, something forever changes the passengers. Some of the passengers learn when and how they will die, but for some, their predicted deaths are not very far away at all. A woman, who will later be known as “The Death Lady”, was someone that no one noticed as she boarded the plane, but after what she does on the plane she becomes truly remarkable. A few months after this flight, one passenger dies as predicted and when two more passengers soon die as they were told they would, everyone starts to believe this is more than an entertaining story to tell.

The concept behind HERE ONE MOMENT is really cool. I loved the discussions each of the characters had regarding their future, choice, and fate. It did remind me a little bit of THE MEASURE, one of my favorite books ever.

The passengers POVs are told in 3rd person, while Cherry’s POV is in 1st person. I enjoyed each of the POVs that are shared as each had a slightly different outlook on the predictions they obtained, and it was interesting to see the actions they took as well as how themselves and their family reacted to this news. Cherry’s POV grew on me as the story progressed, showing her life from a young age to the present. There are some very heartbreaking and heartwarming moments that Cherry shares with the reader.

HERE ONE MOMENT would make for an excellent book for a book club as there is certainly lots to discuss.

I am not sure how I feel about the way this story ends. I felt like it had been building up to something big and it, unfortunately, ended up being very lackluster.

Many thanks to Penguin Random House Canada for the AD-PR product as well as Tandem Collective for setting up this Tandem Readalong.
