Falling for the Villain by Rachel Van Dyken, M. Robinson

5.0

When we left off in Mafia Casanova, Juliet Sinacore had been taken. That's all we knew. We begin Falling for the Villain, finding out precisely what kind of situation she is in. This book is on the dark side; it heads into slave/master territory. If you are not into dark romance, this is definitely not for you. You have to be in a certain mindset to enjoy the nuances of what makes a slave/master romance. I have read them a couple of times, it's not my go-to, but I will read it to get the perspective of the authors and the characters. Juliet comes from a violent family; it's how she's been raised. Let's be honest; she's not been living in the burbs with her loving daddy and big brother. If you've read Mafia Casanova, you know big brother is not a nice guy. And if you are thinking about this book, you like a little dark spice in your life, then this book is for you.

Donovan is a complex character. You see his dark side, but you see how it came to be. And let's be honest, this is dark romantic fiction (am I expecting reality? NO!), and our authors do a fantastic job of revealing Donovan and how Juliet affects him. We see the struggle he has with who he is and who he wants to be with Juliet. And we see how difficult that is with the past he has and how he got to where he is. Falling for the Villain is a tension-filled story with twists and turns. It's brutal at times, sweetly romantic at times, and steam-your-Kindle-up HOT at times. It all blends to create a great book on its own merits but a terrific follow-up to Mafia Casanova. I do hope there will be more from this dynamic writing team-up because they set a pretty high bar for dark mafia romance with these two books.
