The Beauty by Aliya Whiteley
2.0
Two stars = this was..meh
The idea is very intriguing and uncanny – yet the execution was just meh. This is a short story about a weird fungal infection that kills all women in a secluded community, and what happens later. The events are eerie and uncomfortable, the author weaves the plot as a metaphor on gender roles and stereotypes. I applaud that. However, this did not feel very complete, to me it read more along the lines of a thought experiment / rough draft and the interesting ideas did not warrant a reading experience that would be fulfilling and feel complete.
