The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang

4.75

“For this is the Sword of Kaigen; to charge it, is to die.”

what an action-packed fantasy book, with many important issues that are being brought into. i had so much fun reading this book and i experienced so many different emotions from anger to sadness to heartwarming. i’m rooting for Misaki and her character’s growth throughout the book, all her pain, regret, and sadness are mine too. i also adore Setsuko for all her positive influence on Misaki.

this book has insane worldbuilding, with all the superpowers of each character that are new in fantasy books I read, it gives me so much fun to dig into and be excited about. the oppression of the emperor, patriarchy, friendship, family, parents-children relationship, and the urge to prove that you are worth it, mixed with intense battle and revenge, are everything I want from a fantasy book.

once i finished this book, i discovered myself wanting more!! my best read this month.
