I enjoyed the book, but I felt this was on the wrong side of "fantastique" literature for me. During the two thirds of the book, the main character keeps saying "surely, it can't be a ghost", and "you will think I am dumb for not believing it was a ghost, etc." Given Alex's first adventure, I could not believe how they avoided the clues so obviously. I also wanted to know more about Moroi, and the resolution was too rushed for my liking. (That is partly on me. I am not a novella fan)
On the plus side, the writing was enjoyable, and I got very attached to the characters.
