Love Him Wild by E.M. Lindsey

5.0

This book is really two stories in one. It begins with Parker and Ronan, and the fire that injured Fitz. We see the beginnings of love, the long drought and separation caused by loss and guilt and self-doubt, and how these men came together. And then, just as they seem settled into their long, unique, intense and unshakable love, along comes Jonas.

Jonas spent a childhood being not good enough for his father, and when he thought he might break free, habit and guilt and old, bad cycles of behavior kept him in the family business, working for a man he always wanted to please, and now hates but can't get free from. Arriving in Cherry Creek as the face of his father's company, knowing that their land development will damage the quaint small town beyond repair, he expects to be loathed and shunned.

But circumstances, Jonas's own sweet and hesitant nature, and a love-at-first-sight miracle, bring him into the orbit of several townsfolk who don't seem to wish him ill. Especially two men. The acerbic, brilliant, moody and passionate one-armed doctor and the forest ranger fighting the effects of MS share a love he can almost feel in the air. The idea that they might have some interest in him is a pipe dream, a fantasy. And yet, as they circle each other in those first days of attraction and curiosity, something new is building. But does Jonas dare reach for happiness? And if he does, might he damage this couple whose love is the centerpiece of their lives?

I enjoyed the characters in this. Parker is unique and delightful, Ronan stubborn and slow to change, and steadfast and strong. And Jonas, who asks for so little and deserves the love he finds. There are challenges for them to meet, and they're presented with a strength and realism that doesn't tip over into excessive angst. This was an M/M/M where I didn't feel like the original main couple had a space or lack they needed Jonas to fill. And yet, bringing him in created something just as stable and warm, and bigger, between the three of them.
