Howl by Renee Miller

4.0

Somewhere between 3-4* for me -- The beginning took me a little bit to get into because I did not like any of the characters and wanted them to all die. They started out being too trope-like for me to want to get to know them, but I was definitely interested in finding out more about the monster right away. However, the latter half of the novella picks up a lot and hooked me in. Miller's writing really shows its strength in the horrific descriptions the further into the story you get. The conflict and issues that arise toward the end are fascinating and impossible to look away from. We get to see just enough of everything that is happening to form our own ambiguous ideas about what is really happening with these dreadful abominations of monsters and what the last character is going through. I loved the ending!
