The Trial by Franz Kafka
4.0

the "was published unfinished, after authors death" hit real hard during the reading, but tbh it doesnt take away from the message. i was really frustrated with how little of actual court involvment there was, at first i thought it was the authors fault but tbf it was the entire point of this book. partial freedom made it feel like nothing changed in k.'s life. he could go on living like normal, he wasnt locked up and didnt even have any specific charges that hed have to deny. still everyone around acted like its the most important thing on earth. guysssss either tell him what he did wrong or leave the guy alone. its natural he disgrades the whole thing. like whats he supposed to do explain step by step his entire life to a judge? guess what he couldve been accused of? thats absurd. but thats exactly what the court expects of him and doesnt give an ounce of information in return. when everything takes place behind closed doors he can either prepare himself for any possibility or force his way in. and its frustrating!!!!!!! cause hes the only one that will be affected by this in the end and yet its as if he was outside of it all. on paper theyre being lenient, giving him space and all, but what theyre  actually doing is driving him mad so that he cant actually use any of that freedom nor defend himself, so that they eventually get their own way.

still i dont think i would have finished this book if i had anything else to do.
