We Unleash the Merciless Storm by Tehlor Kay Mejia
5.0

" The inner island soldiers had weathered a storm like this a week; the rain was no more than annoyance to them. But to outer islanders who had lived a lifetime and more of drought, it was nothing more than a miracle. An act of God, when they'd too long believed all their gods had abandoned them."

YES YES YES.
I had worried that this book wouldn't live up to first and would leave me unsatisfied but boy was I wrong. It was so interesting to read from Carmen's perspective when finding out that she was not who we thought she was.

I loved seeing the uprising in the eyes of the rebellion , where they want to be their for the cause ans their family. Although Dani had grown to support the cause by the end of book 1 it was through means of blackmail. It was interesting reading those that are their because it was their family.

" They never had understood lack, or desperation, and they were paying for it now."

This book handled society faults , classism and just fucking everything in the most beautiful and eye opening way. You find yourself fighting along side La Voz , running , hiding ,fighting.

There were slow parts of the book I won't agrue against that but I think that they were needing in order to counteract all the heart ache and betrayal this book has.

Right at the beginning, Cielo, though being a minor character ( if you can even call her one ) , had me in tears. You didn't need to care or know the girl to find her death incredibly devastating. But I think that Sotas death had hit me the hardest.

I didnt care for him in book 1 , I don't think that we were ment to. He blackmailed Dani and pushed her around. But we saw him as who he is in this book. We saw him raw and real. As a brother. A member of a cause.

His death shook me hard and I couldn't believe it even as I read chapters and pages more. He died to protect the people that he loved, to help to fight for the rebellion. His death wasnt in vain.

The romance in this book was raw and real. They were toxic ,they argued , they lied , they distrusted eachother time and time again. But they loved eachother. Protected eachother. They had never been allowed to just love eachother and nothing else , no rebellion, no spying. I loved seeing them overcome barriers and being able to love eachother true and full.

" We are the revolution," she said. "You are the revolution. It all starts here."
"I won't let you down," Carmen said, her words heavy, her throat tight around them.
"Hadn't even considered it."
Be safe, she wanted to say, thinking of the capital, the government complex, the million ways to get lost. To get hurt.
"Be great ," she said instead

This book is a perfect mixture of found family , love , rebellion, corruption , betrayal and just so much more.

I wish I could read it again with a fresh mind
