Captured Beauty is the second of three connected novellas. In this world, witches and warlocks are being killed because of what happened to the current King’s parents.

This one follows Biris, the warlock who is a spy for the high priest and has been working for the King for 15 years. He’s managed to hide his true self well, but that all changes when Shayla, the high priest’s daughter, is captured.

I was so excited to read Biris’s story after he was introduced in the first novella. He has given everything to help his people, and I wanted him to have a happy ending. Watching him balance his feelings with his perceived duty is heartbreaking in a way, but the payoff is worth it as the story comes to a close.

Shayla is strong and sure, much like I’ve come to expect the FMCs in the author’s work. Though she struggles with where she and Biris stand because of the nature of their relationship, it’s great to see her try to work through that in what is arguably the most difficult time of her life. She puts everything on the line, even when it doesn’t look like it will work in her favor, and I couldn’t help but root for her.
