Twelve Years A Slave

Written in 1853, years before the Civil War and shortly after Harriett Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. It is the amazing story of what happened when Northup (a free black man) was kidnapped and taken to New Orleans and sold to a plantation owner. It is a very elegantly written narrative. I started it at the beginning of the lockdown when the BLM protests started in full force, but as is usually the case with me when I read ebooks, it took me a while to finish. 8/10
