Never Say You Can't Survive: How to Get Through Hard Times by Making Up Stories by Charlie Jane Anders

5.0

I'm normally not great with writing advice (or any advice) books. I am in LOVE with this book, and want to shout it from the rooftops. Listening to Charlie Jane Anders narrate her own book was like sitting in conversation with the author. Comfortable. I felt seen in so many ways as a writer, and while yes, there were still moments of "I can't put in that kind of work, my brain doesn't work that way" shame, there were SO MANY FEWER of those moments. This book made me feel good about writing, about continuing. It energized me to get to work editing (a hard thing for me to feel good about, so that's impressive).

I borrowed the audiobook from the library, and halfway through I knew it was a keeper and went and ordered the hardcover to own. I will go through and mark some passages I want to return to again when I need to hear that advice.

The world is on fire. We don't need to let our creativity burn with it. Thank you, Charlie Jane Anders, for everything you've said here.
