Dad's Omega Best Friend by Anna Wineheart

Thoughts while reading:
-there’s instalust and then there’s INSTALUST and this was the second. Could there have been a little more time before they got right down into it? Like a couple of weeks, or hey, maybe even the second day? I would have enjoyed it much more if there had been a teensy tiny build up.

-is it me, or does the cover show a redhead (pretty sure that’s Nico-yes I checked, River’s blonde), holding two hands in front of him when Nico has a shorter arm and would be physically unable to do this…

-I loathe surprise visits and think they’re very inconsiderate irl. Also, why is Brodie coming so late, he’s missed the time he could be really helpful.

-why don’t Brodie and River just put Nico out of his misery and say Brodie knows. Seems cruel not to.

-why does Brodie have a key to Nico’s house and decide to use it without knocking? Who does that at someone else’s house? Being walked in on is my least favorite plot device - it’s way overdone and in this case, pretty illogical. And this is the second time he’s surprise visited, the first was too much

-seems crazy and over the top that Zim can so obviously harass Nico in the hallway. He’s not even Nico’s department head. Also, Nico is an idiot not to hide important papers after Zim grabbed them the first time.

-River joining the dating app, totally crossing a line. Not to mention, how humiliating for Nico if he finds out River is trying to convince a student to be interested in Nico.

-Nico’s reaction to Brodie knowing seems ott adding crazy unnecessary drama, especially with River also feeling not good enough

-River tells Nico when they break up, “Don’t give up on the baby, all right? I’ll be back if you need help with it.” Really? Only if he needs help with it? You’re going to be a deadbeat dad otherwise? And Nico has a great track record for asking for help or for what he needs NOT.

-and what’s River supposed to do for living now that he’s in the midst of an exchange program and on the poor side? Nico’s a real gem for kicking him out. Plus we know Jed and Zim will act up, very predictable

-after all this, we still don’t know why Brodie decided to show up unannounced after traveling a fair distance (later it confirms all the way across the country) because he lives far away (and hasn’t seen his best friend in years, but now it’s so easy he does it twice in like a couple of months, but that’s besides the point). Or why he lets himself into his friend’s house when he knew said friend was sleeping with his son already (maybe he’s hoping to walk in on them? Why else would you do that?). Also why does he even have a key, when Brodie and River haven’t seen Nico for years?

-why is Brodie suddenly popping by a few times to pick up River’s things when:
A. He lives and works far enough away that he hasn’t seen Nico in person in years and River needs a place to stay because it’s too far to commute to school
B. Brodie doesn’t have much money (pretty sure this book referenced it, but if not Brodie’s book shows how poor he is), so staying long term at a hotel probably isn’t feasible when just traveling there is probably a lot of money

-omg, stowing away in Nico’s house? I get for money sake River can’t afford much or anything to finish out the semester, but that isn’t even why he’s doing it. It’s to look after Nico and it’s bats$hit crazy.

-what was the outcome of Zim seeing the papers?

As I said, I didn’t like how ridiculously quickly they got together, however, I was enjoying the beginning as a whole and then it just got…not great.
