Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
5.0

11/17/2021: I never get tired of coming back to these characters when I need their Simple Gifts. While this is probably the weakest one in the series, it's only by virtue of being the first. Charles and Anna are still finding their footing as protagonists but also as individual characters being fleshed out right before our eyes. Watching them grow as people and as a bonded pair is truly a gift to me. It's a slow burn in the best way. Like a building campfire, I love to just sit and watch them grow.

6/19/2020: This is definitely my 5th, even though Goodreads says it's the 4th. I had forgotten that the last time I read this was right after our cat Patches passed away. Today is mine & my partner's 7 year anniversary, and I can happily say that we have come a long way since we lost our fur baby, and have only gotten stronger as a couple - just like Charles and Anna. They continue to be a huge inspiration for me to better communicate I love you when we don't always have the words.

11/3/18: Probably my 4th or 5th time reading this. I'll have to find time to write an entire review, but it is a big comfort read for me. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our cat, the grouchy old man who was just too sick and miserable to keep going. Little things have been triggering me left and right since watching him fade from this world and being able to fall back on Anna and Charles, like Anna falls back on her wolf knowing she will always catch her has helped. It's still a raw and gaping wound but I'm hopeful that together me and my partner will heal with love.
