This is a gritty book that isn’t enjoyable per se because of how dark it is, but rather a thrilling and thought provoking read. It’s bleak and at times hard to read because the post-apocalyptic world the author has crafted, that of very few women and no children, is both desolate and stark. It is captivating though, and I found it hard to put down once I had started. I am also pleased to learn that it is the first of a trilogy, so I will definitely be looking to get the next two books. 4.5/5 stars.
