The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich
4.5
emotional reflective

This was an easy 400 pages to consume. I was reluctant to start it for a long time after not enjoying The Sentence very much but found the characterization and plot much more compelling. Still curious what a waterjack costume would look like. But pixie and Thomas were rich characters and it was especially meaningful to read about a real person- lots of pride there. There are some minor quibbles with plot threads that I wish would’ve been picked back up or gotten more of- like pixie’s reunion with Vera. But those are not the point and this was a great read. Themes of resilience, grit, family and community.
