Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love
by Jonathan Van Ness
I love Queer Eye and JVN's effervescent and infectious personality. His voice explodes out of the book, you totally read it with his voice in mind. The content is vulnerable, raw, and not always pretty and his honesty about the darker moments make me love him even more. But I did find myself tiring of the tedium of "gorgeous" and "queeeeen" and the shortening of words to achieve Cher Horrowitz-level coolness. For me, it distracted from many of the heavy topics he discussed, which may be how he felt comfortable enough to share it all. He still effectively created a memoir that was wholly him and perfect for any die-hard JVN fan.
