Queen of the Dead by Stacey Kade

4.0

When I first saw The Ghost and The Goth in one of our local bookstores, I told my boyfriend I wanted to get it and gave him a brief overview about the plot. He told me it can't possibly have a happy ending simply because the girl is already dead. Which led me to wonder how the author would work around that.

This book answers that question for me. Queen of the Dead is a great 2nd book in this trilogy. It did not fall short of my expectations. Will finds out that there's actually a whole community of ghost-talkers, and he is desperate to get to know them. Alona does not take this very well, mainly because this secret society does not have the same principle of helping lost souls cross over.

I really like Alona's character. She is this very confident person who knows what she wants, and will do whatever she can to get it. But she also has a vulnerable side, which she naturally tries to hide, but sometimes it can't help but show. I like how the author did not do a personality overhaul on Alona.

Will shines a little bit more in this book than the previous one. A little more spine and a little less the rather helpless guy in the first book.

I am still not sure how the story ends for Alona and Will. This book will leave you hanging, but thankfully none of us have to wait anymore since the finale has already been released. Things still look a little sketchy right now, so I am looking forward to finishing the last book.
