Sets the background for the whole series and makes you understand and emphasise with the main characters actions. Debate is when is best to read this and I think before or 3rd fits either way. I can imagine reading before the series would set the scene but reading it 3rd (in publication order you already have established emotions to the characters making the final chapter of this book hit harder!
