Water for Drowning by Ray Cluley

5.0

This was very unexpected. Sad and beautiful and so atmospheric. The main character annoyed the heck out of me at first but I'm pretty sure that was on purpose. He starts off as a horny asshole lead singer in a band and then slowly turns into someone much more likeable as he falls for this mysterious girl who is obsessed with mermaids.
Until he does something that ruins the likeability, but that was to be expected.
I loved the little details about mermaid folklore and -- Genna. How I loved Genna.
This story had under 100 pages and yet it left me haunted.
