Runaways (2017-) #14 by David Lafuente, Rainbow Rowell, Kris Anka

So this is probably the first issue where I won’t start off stating that I love the series. Unless it’s to reassure the readers that I still love it – even if I’m not thrilled with the tone of this issue.
It’s not that the tone was heavy (been there, done that) but rather it’s…childish. The children of the Gibborum has a lot of potential for a plot, but turning them into needy whiney brats didn’t do the series any favors. Nor did the way they handled everyone’s reactions in this issue. It all just felt shallow and immature. That sounds a bit harsh.
The short story at the end about Lace was super cute though. I’d rate that 5 starts if it was its own issue. I love nonverbal storytelling in comics, so it’s really fun to see a series (any series) experiment with it a bit.
