The Maid's Version by Daniel Woodrell
4.0

I need to scrape some time together so I can read this one again. I'm not the sort to be sayin' that too often, neither. Mostly, I'm a "read it and have done" fella, but my one complaint about this book -- too many characters for me to be keepin' track of, especially since I was off and readin' this in the midst of readin' some other books that had themselves a bunch of characters, too, and so I found myself losing track of these guys every now and again -- is part of why I'm thinkin' that another read-through might be in order for me. Sometime.

I will say that I was plumb touched by them quick tales about some of the folk what perished. How that writer fella can pack so much life into so few words amazes me.

I also found that the way this story got told out -- jumpin' about in time as bits of it became important to be told -- well, it coulda been rather confusing, but somehow it didn't get itself turned out that way. I found that it was like a river flowin' into my mind, just all wide and natural.

I really want to say a bit more -- I mean, I could say lots of these little things, but there's one big one that mutterin' and complainin' how I won't tell it -- but I ain't set to spoil nothin' so I'm just gonna quit typin' now and have done.
