Sharpe's Tiger by Bernard Cornwell
4.0

My first Sharpe book. I went into this with some trepidation. I am not a big fan of the time period the books take place in and had some concerns that the writing/characters, etc might be a bit stuffy.

My preconceptions were wrong. Sharpe was a very engaging and likable character even if it took a good part of the book to reveal his depth. The man took some hellacious punishment, but "soldiered" on. All of the characters were actually very interesting even the unlikeable ones (Hakeswill for instance).

What surprised me most in the book was the action. It was very well written and Sharpe was shown to be a very capable soldier.

The only downside of the book was possibly too much talk about battlements and fortifications. I know they were integral to the story, but my eyes glossed over a couple of times during some of those descriptions.
