The Sign of the Four by Arthur Conan Doyle
3.75
adventurous dark mysterious medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot

Similar to A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four was another interesting time capsule of the 19th century.

I'm sure it was a riveting mystery for the time, but like the previous book, I feel like there's just a bit of meat missing from the story. Sure, there are some fantastical details with the origins of the treasure, but other than that, it's a bit lacking.

I still quite like Doyle's writing, Holmes and Watson make a really fun duo (obviously), and it makes for an easy, entertaining read. Despite lacking any major punch, the mysteries and the solving of them are also quite fun, and I'm really enjoying the glimpse of another time these books are providing.
