This book was an absolute blast to read. The first book I've let myself read that confronted the 2020 era of the COVID-19 pandemic directly, Scalzi manages the perfect amount of scathing commentary, some really fun and thorough world building, and a kick-ass science fiction adventure. It took me a bit to realize how much I loved this novel but by the end, the characters had endeared themselves to me so much and the relationships they built felt so strong that I was rooting for them every step of the way. I'd love to see more in this world either with these characters (Kahurangi and Jaime were very sweet together imo) or branching out to other adventures in Kaiju Preservation around the world. Either way, this will still be a fantastic little novel to dive back into.
