Sapphique by Catherine Fisher

3.0

The return of Finn-- supposedly the long lost prince of the Realm-- everything has changed. There are doubts of his legitimacy, and both the Queen and the Steel Wolves are engaged in a power struggle that Finn has no interest in. His concern is with the people he left behind in Incarceron. But even the prison, things are changing. The appearance of a mysterious glove sets Keiro and Attia to journey towards the heart of Incarceron in the hopes to freedom, but it becomes clear that the prison has other plans.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the sequel, but I must say that I enjoyed it more than the first. Again, Fisher alternated between Outside and Inside, which created suspense. I loved seeing the struggle, and I loved the added obstacles thrown at Finn and Claudia. I also loved the Keiro and Attia team. The fact that we already know the characters made this book somewhat fast paced, but I wanted MORE from the characters! I felt each of them was in a different page, and Fisher really dragged it.

And then there is the ending. I think the last twist is great, but... the only character that knew what was going on didn't bother explaining anything. So, like our main characters, we are lost, confused, and just dropped into the start of a new beginning. I didn't see how the solution could make that big an impact or change. I don't know... it was just...weird.

Despite all that though, I really did enjoy this book. It was better than I expected, and at times I marveled at how well Fisher phrased things. At the end, I even choked up because of the characters. It's a great dystopic series.
