This was the cutest, swooniest sapphic coming of age story! The Monty Python-esque world set in an alternate England was so vivid, and our main characters were so loveable.
I think many fantasy stories try to address the journey of young women reckoning with the role that patriarchy has shoved them into, but this one does it with a surprising amount of poignancy amidst its quirky, lighthearted narrative style. Gwen and Isobelle are not only one of the best couples I’ve read in a while (their romance and chemistry was so good!) but they also serve as such good foils to each other. I love the way they showed different sides of the coin in their approach to defining their own lives while always showing respect and admiration for each other.
This was everything I’d ever want in a YA romance and everyone should read it. PERFECTION.
