4.5 stars! This was such an interesting gripping speculative fiction story and the type of style that I've come to expect and LOVE from marrs. My favorite book by him is of course the one but this one felt like an unofficial kinda sequel to that which was fantastic. They r def set in the same world as mentions of the dating app from the one is in this story. This book also follows multiple couples/POVs as they navigate the marriage act that is implemented in this fictional society. The concepts and themes were so fascinating and eerily mirror some concepts and things that are in our actual society now and also some that may be tryna come to fruition unfortunately and really makes you think about some things. I loved reading all the different couples as they all had unique struggles and issues as a result of the marriage act and they all were also kind of linked. It was a great quick read and if you're a fan of things like black mirror, the movies the Truman show and wag the dog, topics related to A.I., parasocial relationships and any type of speculative fiction dealing with the human experience I highly recommend this one. The authors note was interesting as well as marrs discusses how the concept for this book happened and the real life research he did and some of the findings
