Goddamn do they like to bicker in this one. The main characters spend the entire book fighting about the same issue and I don’t think it’s resolved by the end despite the characters seemingly changing their attitudes. The structure of the book also doesn’t do it any service. There are far too many time skips for anything to feel momentous. Keeping the timeline of the book to a year just made the story feel emptier than it could’ve otherwise felt. The ending was epic though, I liked the General as a character more than I expected. That said, none of the characters aside from the main two ever felt more rounded compared to the first book which was a shame since the main squad was likable enough. All and all a middle of the road book.
