Prince Caspian
by C.S. Lewis
I only liked 4 things in this book...
I was really enjoying the chapters which told the backstory of Prince Caspian.
Pattertwig is the best. This needed more waaaaay Pattertwig.
I liked when Lucy was walking in the forest admiring the stars and wondering about the trees.
The part about the Bulgy Bear sucking his paws was funny.
Now what I didn't like...
Okay, so this is a kids books and that might play a part in this. If it was a YA or Middle Grade (which are kids books, but kind of older kids imo) it probably wouldn't be so bad. I still wouldn't like it, but I might not have as much as a problem.
I did not like the violence at all. I don't expect to read about heads getting cut off and kids in sword fights to the death with adults when reading kids books. It feels like they are being forced to fight by Aslan. I know that there are allegories and stuff in this book, but I don't like children being put in the middle of a war. Kids escaping danger, fine. Kids defending themselves when being attacked, fine sure. But kids choosing or being forced to participate in a bloody battle that involves death, no. I don’t want to think of a 12 year old slicing off heads and whatever else.
I also don't really like the Pevensies as main characters. They are kind of mean and don't seem to care about each other as much as they should.
I had some other problems with it, but I feel like I've ranted enough.
I know this is a massive favorite for a lot of people, but it's really not for me. I just checked out the next book from the library yesterday, before I'd read the battle scenes, but I'm going to return it. I'm not going to continue with the series. It's harder for me to ignore violence when there are children involved.
