"someone mentioned, heracleitus, your death, and brought me
to tears, reminding me how many times together
we put the sun down in his couch to sleep."
- callimachus, epigram II

these translations are sublime. i always prefer to read translations of any classical materials done by poets specifically because there's no one more suited for the job. the word choices are so delicious and so wonderfully moving and graceful. it was an absolute joy to read this sweet little anthology, especially considering the lovely introductions to each poet that genuinely humanize each man and relay some hilarious anecdotes. collections like these remind me why i'm in love with classics.
