The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig
5.0
5 stars to The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig, an absolutely amazing horror novel that surprised me and that I loved.

I I don’t even know where to begin with this epic novel-it has so much going on-ghosts, an eerie old house, family trauma, a dash of cosmic horror, a weird kid and a rural setting, but it all works and gets tied together beautifully. I hit a spot about halfway through where I just knew this would be a new favourite and by the end it was cemented as a top horror read.

I don’t want to say too much plot wise, because as with many books, it’s best to go in blind for this one I think. One thing I will rave about though is the characters; whether good or bad they were so well done. Oliver is probably one of my newest favourite horror protagonists. His ability to see pain in others is unique and I really enjoyed how it developed throughout the story. Nate was also a great character, trying to be a better man than his awful father was and succeeding just to be thrown into an awful battle. I didn’t like Maddie for the longest time, but oh man did I ever come around to her by the end. Owls-a highlight of the book for me. Jake-man fuck him, but he was such a great antagonist, one I won’t forget anytime soon.

I cannot recommend this book enough-it made me feel all the things, it creeped me out and had me on the edge of my seat. I will definitely be reading more by Chuck soon.
