this book is so so good. its sad, tender, unexpectedly funny, and so emotional. it was a good choice for my first book of 2023.

this book is about a group of recreational swimmers at a local pool, then starts specifically focusing on alice, a member of the pool community who has dementia. it almost feels like it is two separate stories with three different parts. part one was about the community around the pool. part two you learn about alice’s new life as she transitions into it. in part three alice’s daughter describes their mother-daughter relationship.

i was a competitive swimmer when i was younger, and when she described swimming and how you are yourself when you’re swimming, i’ve never felt so seen. i’ve never missed the pool more lol.

such a fantastic read, i’m so glad i branched out a bit to read something outside of my wheelhouse.
