Sweet Tooth Vol. 6: Wild Game by Jeff Lemire
5.0
The epic conclusion to Jeff Lemire's saga about the boy with a sweet heart, a sweeter tooth, and the features of a deer.
This volume ties everything together just so perfectly. It starts with another landscape issue telling the story of the boy and the big man. That's followed by the Singh tapes and then the real conclusion. It's probably the most action-packed volume yet.
What I love about these types of books is when there's danger, there's a real sense of danger. You don't know who's going to make it through to the end. There are a lot of twists and turns and they all pack a genuine punch. Even the ones that you see coming still ear the weight that they need for the scene to work.
The best part is the final issue. It's one of the most perfect comics I have ever read. What's best is it puts other aspects of the story into perspective, specifically the issues that were told as stories. It's amazing to see how Lemire wraps everything up. He takes it from what was already a pretty grand scale to be just something incredible and beautiful and huge. I think the last issue got me to feel as many emotions as the entire series. Beautiful is really the only word I can use to describe it. The writing is amazing. I can't get over how much the final pages told the perfect ending to this amazing story.
There's a message too if you want to see it. It's about the meaning of life and how you interact with people. It's about how you build a family. It's about making friends and defending them. Standing up for what you believe in. Learning who you are and realizing your past doesn't define you.
This book is amazing. It's 6 volumes and worth every penny and every issue. Read them all.
