Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Johnson by Tourmaline

emotional hopeful informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

4.5

Took me a while to get into it, and would’ve enjoyed hearing more about the research process for this, especially to see more of the connection between Marsha as history and the present day movement and community. I was surprised and delighted to discover some of the people who played such a vital role in her story are still alive! But I recognize that’s just something I personally would’ve enjoyed, not something the book is objectively missing.

While I wish there was even more information about her, I felt like this book captured the spirit and joy of her life, as well as the complicated and messier parts of her life as a disabled woman. I fell in love with her over the course of this book. I feel different for having read it.
