I enjoy this series a lot and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next volume because the plot is definitely picking up. I appreciate that we get to see lots of the characters’ everyday lives and interactions. The only glaring negative is the lack of diversity, which is really unfortunate.
Summary (includes spoilers):
Amy tries to find Oliver on the Internet to no avail, but she finds out that her art teacher believes his name is Peter Smith. Cassie and David are both still hurting from their breakup, while Amy and Oliver are both hurting from their platonic breakup. Oliver doesn’t want to risk Amy’s life by continuing their friendship. Oliver tells Dr Kim that he wants to move away from Kokomo and Dr Kim agrees to make the move.
Amy fails a history test and decides to study harder so she can ensure a better future for herself. While studying, she finds out about the Artifact, which was thought to be a sign of alien life when it was first discovered. Many countries came together to form the First Contact Project and a massive ship (the Arno) was sent to investigate the Artifact. Its arrival was delayed by a solar flare. Amy watches a video and notices something strange about the director of the First Contact Project, but she doesn’t come to any conclusions.
On a snow day, school is cancelled and Amy goes sledding with Zephyr (who is still trying to reveal his crush to her). On the way home, she sees Oliver and plans to reach out to him, but the bully Scott attacks her. Oliver steps in to protect Amy and, when his guard is down, she detects that his flavor is orange with a hint of cinnamon. Amy realizes that her glasses have recorded the entire incident.
She goes to see Dr Kim, hoping to find out why Oliver said “goodbye,” and discovers that he no longer works at the hospital.
