I initially fell in love with Orquidea Divina at the bookstore. The book cover is stunning and drew me to it from across the room. As I read the summary, I became more excited to read it once I found out that it was set in Ecuador, a country that I've spent a significant amount of time in and love dearly. Add in the themes of magical realism, family secrets, and travel and I was sold.

Once I got the book home, it sat on my shelf for several months. I almost felt intimidated to read it because I was worried I might have overhyped it in my head. Luckily, that was not the case and once I finally dug into it I really enjoyed it!

The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina is a gorgeous, literary experience that paints stunning pictures and mixes reality with magic in a way that really immerses you in the story. We are introduced to Orquidea at the end of her life as she calls all of her family to her to celebrate her life. Immediately it becomes clear that she is a unique woman and that her inheritance involves a fair bit of adventure.

If you are a lover of magical realism, reflections on life, relationships between family members, and adventure, this book is for you! It may be a bit quieter and more subtle than similar stories, but in my opinion, that is what makes it shine.
