Celle qui devint le soleil by Shelley Parker-Chan

5.0

★★★★★ -So this is probably the best book I've read in 2022 so far. I absolutely love it.

Since I first saw this book, I wanted to read it. So of course, when I saw it was translated into French, I was very excited (and the Bragelonne editions did an amazing job with the cover and everything, this book is so pretty, totally worth the €25 I spent).
Strangely enough and for a reason I can't explain, this book is usually marketed as a retelling of Mulan's story. I think I can say it's not at all. The two stories are entirely different: Mulan's story is about family and honour while [b:She Who Became the Sun|48727813|She Who Became the Sun (The Radiant Emperor, #1)|Shelley Parker-Chan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1625048838l/48727813._SY75_.jpg|74086825] is not.
If you like stories about betrayal, political plots and war, you will probably love this book. If you're waiting for a love story or anything, forget it. There is no love story here (I mean, there is a love story, but it's not at all the main and most important thing of the story). This also brings me to say that when everyone is introducing this book as a "queer love story / lesbian love story" it's true but kinda false advertising as well because the love story is such a minor thing here.
Anyway, I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to absolutely everyone here.
