Tarkin by James Luceno
4.0

Tarkin is my second foray into the New Star Wars Canon, the first being [b:Lords of the Sith|22012290|Lords of the Sith|Paul S. Kemp|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1398457143s/22012290.jpg|41325693]. Continuing the Antagonist as Protagonist trend in modern storytelling, [b: Tarkin|22012250|Tarkin (Star Wars)|James Luceno|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1398456370s/22012250.jpg|41325637] looks into the life of Moff Wilhuff Tarkin and his interactions with Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. This book is based on the time between the PT and OT just like [b:Lords of the Sith|22012290|Lords of the Sith|Paul S. Kemp|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1398457143s/22012290.jpg|41325693], so there are more Republic vs. Separatist equipment and weaponry, but we are slowly marching towards the tech that long-time Star Wars fans know and love TIE Fighters and X-Wings and the like.

What I really want to commend on this review is the audio-book production, which was frankly, top notch. It is produced like a radio dramatization while still being unabridged. John Williams' fantastic score is expertly placed to add to the story versus overshadowing it. The voice acting and narration are great and it is easy to differentiate the speakers. Finally, the sound effects really up the ambiance. It sounds like you're on a ship, and the battles sound true to the Star Wars Brand.

I didn't really want to touch too much on the plot itself, mainly because I'm sure someone else has done so better than I would be able to. The book, audiobook specifically, is recommended!
