If you saw my review for The False Prince then you know how much I adored the story. There wasn't enough good things to say about it. The plot, characters, writing style...you get the idea. I was beyond pumped to continue the series, to say the least.

In a nut shell, The Runaway King was very good but there were a couple minor things that either bothered or disappointed. I'll list those first to get them out of the way.

1) The Pirates. Now hang on, let me explain. I love a good pirate story. When I heard from some G.R buddies that there were pirates in the sequel, I could hardly contain my excitement. However, the pirates I visualized V.S the pirates in the book are two totally different things. This is just my opinion but the pirates seemed more like a band of high ranking, blood-thirsty, thieves living on the coast instead of the swashbuckling, sea-goers I had in mind. Basically I was expecting/hoping that a good chunk of this adventure would be spent on the high seas. A tad disappointing.

2) Sage's incredible stamina. I'm not going to give spoilers but in one part, Sage is wounded beyond just the average "suck it up and keep moving" injury. We're talking some serious pain. Yet despite this he's still able to climb a side of the cliff (my mind pictured it as a side of the cliff) and then put up a half-way decent sword fight. Granted, there was the intake of some natural pain killers in between but it still seemed a bit unrealistic to me.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read and there was a lot that I liked. Sage's return home was one of my favorite parts. The plot was very intense at times and I had to literally set the book aside to take a breather. The characters are continuing to grow. I like that Sage finally admitted, if not several chapters too late, that his plan was foolish and that it's OK to ask for help and that not everyone is against him. Fink was a cute kid in a frustrating way. Imogen- I honestly believe she is a character to watch for in the rest of the series. She's definitely not cowardly or slow on the uptake. That's for sure. As for Amarinda... I just don't care for her. I want to like her but there's something there that isn't working for me.

I'm most intrigued for what's to come next. Highly recommend this series! 4.5 star rating.
