Switch Bitch by Roald Dahl

3.0

This collection is of four short stories that all originally were published in Playboy. It is interesting to compare these stories to Dahl's better known children's books. Both have good writing, dark humor, and some tragedy. It's interesting to note the similarities when the subject matter is so different.

The two stories that bookend the collection feature a British bon vivant playboy, Oswald Cornelius. These are lighter stories, and can be pretty funny. Cornelius, in his voluminous diaries, has a delightful style of prose. His adventures are not earth shattering, but more enjoyable than what I'd expect for something printed in a girlie magazine.

"The Switcheroo" did not do a whole lot for me but the third story "The Last Act" was rather startling. That one was definitely the best of the four to my tastes.
