A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

4.5 really. Again. Goodreads. Give us half stars.

If I had a dollar for every time she said "the former" when she talked about 2 people, I would be rich. She loved saying something like "Cassian and Azriel were talking. The former was talking slow" or "Rhys and Mor were walking, the former with more shadow", and it was just so frequent that I'm truly surprised that the editor did not notice and request she find a new way to structure those sentences.

I loved this book. The story finally had closure and was exciting and heart wrenching. Granted, it lost half a point because I predicted quite a few things, like her dad's involvement, the plan for the cauldron (minus the Amren part), that she'd get the mirror, etc., but it did keep you on your toes and throw you curve balls that you didn't see coming even after you guessed other parts.

I was a little disappointed with Feyre's powers and her involvement in the final battle. The whole book is working up to this point and building Feyre up to being a badass and the one who will wreak havoc on anyone who dares mess with her or anyone she loves and yet she seemed no stronger than she was in book 2 when she started using her powers. I really thought she was going to make a bigger impact than just standing at the cauldron the whole time. I thought she'd use the elements like she did to defend Velaris and make them scared of who she had become. But I overestimated her I guess.

OTHERWISE it was a great book. I can't wait to read the next book as *hopefully* a breath of fresh air, and then dive into the last one. Kinda scared for that transition though.
