The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
4.0
dark mysterious tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I greatly enjoyed the book.
The reason why I was intrigued throughout the story was because the characters were unlikeable, which is also why some people disliked the book. The characters are for the majority mean, complex, quite self-centered, manipulative and obnoxious. But I find it quite refreshing to see real morally grey characters that don’t end up being deep inside « a nice guy who had been traumatised by life ».

I would have liked to see more of Reina and Nico, they were not as developed as the others. Especially Reina, I wanted to understand her better, given her skill set.

The setting was nice and to be honest I enjoy dark academia with an elitist undertone.

I actually enjoy Olivie Blake’s writing style, although it is not everyone’s cup of tea. I like her flowery, poetic writing style, her long and mystical descriptions. I am the kind of person who dislikes writing styles that are too simple and too easy to read (I loved the writing style of The Night Circus so you get the idea) so I had a great time reading lush sentences with « complicated » words 😂

The plot kept me interested in the book and the end was especially captivating as I was able to grasp the whole scale of the story and where it was meant to go in the upcoming books.
I will continue reading the trilogy!
