The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar
medium-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Strong character development? No
- Loveable characters? It's complicated
- Diverse cast of characters? Yes
- Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
3.5
This book was amazing but there were some things that really were not...
First of all with the good part:
- diversity both is sexuality and main characters. I love it
- Sapphic book
- the approach on Bangladesh culture and traditions was beautiful
- the experience of teaching young people about entrepreneurship
-the very beautiful relationship between the main character and her sister (Nishat and Priti)
- nashat parents development!!!
The bad points ( from my own point of view)
- there were so many conflicts unresolved and not discussed for real ( ali, chyna, )
- this was supposed to be an enemies to lover -but the enemies didn't really existed...?Like it was just pretending not to care about each other but ..
- i loved that they approached the cultural appropriation part. But I wished it was more developed and the characters could understand what it means and would grow
- except the parenta character growth, the rest just didn't do anything : nishat, flavia, chyna, ali...they all did so many things and ended up jumping over their mistakes like nothing happened. Chyna at the end was really badly done...
